Lex's Five Faves (February Edition)

Ladies and gentlemen, ride attendants are coming around now to check your seatbelts and lap bars… since we are already cruising into the second week of FebruaryHOW?!  I heard on the news the other night that this time last year the first cases of COVID were being reported in the state.  My brother looked at me incredulously and exclaimed, “It’s been a year?!”  Uh, yes I guess so.  A year ago, only one of my professors was talking about the virus in class.  He predicted it would be in the country in just a matter of time.  I thought he was being paranoid.  A few weeks later, he brought up the possibility of campus shutting down and students being sent home.  I thought that would never happen.  When I got the email about spring break being extended a week, I thought everything would be cleared during those two weeks in March.  And now, here we are, a year later.

Life is blessed wild.  It can feel like, more often than not, a rollercoaster.  And what could the driving force of the rollercoaster of life be?

Love.

Swoon, gag, roll your eyes - embrace any and all of the feelings you experience when you read that word because, I’ll be the first to admit, I hate Valentine’s Day.  It was botched for me in 6th grade.  Plus, why do you need a national holiday to give you permission to spoil your sweetie?  Shouldn’t you be doing sporadically throughout the year regardless?  (Screw corporate holidays).  My favorite day in February is February 15.  The day all Valentine’s chocolate goes on sale.  That’s where it’s at.

Have you ever seen the movie Valentine’s Day?  (If you haven’t, you should.  It’s really good.  One of my faves).  There’s a character who throws an anti-Valentine’s Day party on Valentine’s Day and every time that scene comes on, my parents just stare at me and say, “That’s you.”  I shrug in agreement.  They’re not wrong.  I’m not really a romantic by any means and tend to get really excited about the bare minimum (sad, I know).  My dating track record isn’t pretty (whose is?!) and my love life is non-existent (unless you count my pup, iced coffee, and books), but today I am going to reveal my top five celebrity crushes (with some honorable mentions), my top five rom-coms (because, even though I’m not a romantic, I love a good girls night), and my top five candies (because Valentine’s Day isn’t Valentine’s Day without candy).

~ TOP FIVE CELEB CRUSHES ~

*in no particular order*

Chris Evans: If you know me, you’re probably not even the slightest bit surprised.  I think I seriously drool every time he’s on screen.  He is someone that I seriously think has the whole package - the looks, the personality, etc.  He’s just all-around a good human bean.  Sometime this fall I remembered that the man still wasn’t married and it got me thinking, “Why the bless am I in a hurry if Captain America isn’t even married?!”

Sebastian Stan: Speaking of Captain America, hellooooo Bucky.  After remembering that Evans’ wasn’t married, I quickly Googled Stan’s relationship status (creepy maybe?).  He too is not married in case you’re curious.  Stan also stars in one of my favorite tv shows, Once Upon a Time, so he gets bonus points for that even though his character is wack.  I haven’t seen any of his other works outside of the Marvel/Disney universe.

Scott Eastwood: Duh.  I’ve only watched him in The Longest Ride, but it makes me want to go to a rodeo and find myself a cowboy every blessed time.  Like, the good Lord really took His sweet time with this man.

Derek Hough: Yeah, I love me a man who can dance.  My favorite piece he choreographed is probably the trio featuring him, Bindi Irwin, and Mark Ballas.  Look it up on YouTube.  It’s amazing.  As for me, what a dream it would be to do a tap duet with him.  When I was touring Radio City Music Hall in New York City, our tour guide told us he was in the building.  Internally, I was screaming, “WHERE?” but externally, I kept my cool.  Unfortunately, we didn’t spontaneously bump into him, but that’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to meeting him.  I probably would’ve cried if I did...

Max Greenfield: Cute and funny?  It can’t get better than that in my opinion!  New Girl wouldn’t be New Girl without Schmidt and I love Schmidt.  My dance “aunt” recently showed me his mini-vlog series about lockdown schooling with his daughter and it made me so happy.  Add that to your YouTube queue while you’re at it.

Honorable mentions:

John Stamos - If Uncle Jesse wasn’t your first human crush, then I might question who raised you.

Cole Sprouse - Good gravy was I in love with this boy throughout elementary school (I found Mrs. Cole Sprouse written in far too many of my school notebooks when I deep-cleaned my room last).  My love for him rekindled when I watched him in Five Feet Apart.

Dr. Evan Antin - He is a gorgeous man to look at.  Plus, he’s an exotic animal veterinarian!  I’m currently reading his book, World Wide Vet.  It’s inspiring me to travel the world.

Vince Vaughn - Someone please explain to me why I’m attracted to this man…

Josh Segarra - I’ve literally only seen him play Billy in the tv show, Sirens, and I’m hooked.  Another very attractive specimen.

Dylan Playfair - It’s the hair and the eyes, my friends.  Plus, he plays hockey.  Your girl loves the athletes.

Michael Dameski - Speaking of athletes, I present to you another phenomenal dancer.  Dameski was a contestant on World of Dance and was a member of the Broadway cast of Newsies.  Another one to YouTube (you won’t regret it).

~ TOP FIVE ROM-COMS ~

*in no particular order*

Crazy Rich Asians: Awkwafina and Ken Jeong.  Enough said.

He’s Just Not That Into You: This movie is a classic.  Solid cast, solid advice.  *muah*  It’s fantastic.

Serendipity: Probably one of my favorite movies of all time, for sure.

27 Dresses: You had to have seen this one coming.  Although I’m not “always the bridesmaid,” you can bet I’m “always invited to weddings.”  I have officially reached the age where engagement announcements are usual on my social media timelines and, one day after seeing three in a row, I instantly thought of this movie.

Sixteen Candles: The GOAT.  Don’t @ me.

~ TOP FIVE CANDY ~

*in no particular order*

Reese’s

Kit Kat

Sweet Tart Chews

Dove Dark Chocolate

M&Ms

Honorable mention: Twizzler Bites

Phew, I’m all romance’d out after writing about crushes and rom-coms and candy!  Are any of my faves, your faves?  Any rom-coms you’d recommend to watch this month?  Drop them in the comments below!

As soon as this started with Cap and Bucky, I knew the rest had to be good picks too (also love Sebastian Stan and his Mad Hatter character from OUAT before I loved him as Bucky!)
