Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
And we are almost through April! I am home for the weekend and am so excited to spend time with family and friends. I have noticed that being so close to my family has made me become homesick much faster than I would like. Three weeks away at school feels like three months. Three months without daddy's hugs, mama's laughs, and Katie's Culvers obsession is too long! I also miss my good friend Lex. I miss meeting at the coffee house or the library to plan next month's blog posts. I know she is living it up in Connecticut though so I guess I will be ok.
It is surreal to think that Earth Day is today! Earth Day is great, but I wish people were more generous to the earth everyday. I don't think people think about how there is only one earth and we have to make sure there is enough for all of earth's creatures. Lex talked about some of her favorite sustainable products and her move towards being more earth friendly. I am going to talk about the three R's and what they mean. To be able to help the world, you have to first understand where helping the world starts. It starts with Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!
Reduce: To reduce means to make smaller in amount, degree, or size. Reducing is a great way to help out the earth. You can reduce by using less products, purchasing used items instead of brand new ones, and using less electricity and water.
Reuse: To reuse means to use something more than once. There are so many ways to reuse! Reusing glass jars, bedding, towels, plastic bags, paper bags, and so much more. You can reuse things for crafts, organization, and cleaning projects. My family reuses old hand towels as grease rags in the garage, paper bags for dog poo pickup, and we try to reuse tissue paper for as long as we can until it is too ripped and tattered to use. If you ever have a bunch of something lying around, just look up ways to reuse it, because there is a way to reuse everything!
Recycle: To recycle is to convert waste into reusable material. Recycling is an amazing way to help out the environment. Recycling plastic and paper is a huge way to prevent ocean and land pollution. Making sure to recycle water bottles and plastic tuber ware is important too! Composting is a great way to recycle as well. UW Green Bay has a compost system and it is so cool and saves so much waste from ending up in land fills.
